The FUNSports Story

Dave Green is the founder of FUNSports.   The idea of having a free sports program originates from years of providing sporting opportunities for his nephews.   The young boys had an intense interest in sport, but sometimes they had to overcome barriers to participate in local minor programs.  Thus FUNSports were born, and the boys and youth in their neighbourhood now have access to several sporting opportunities.

Dave has a passion for sport and has worked professionally in the industry in a variety of areas, including Coaching, Management, and Therapy.   Dave was a multi-sport athlete and has coaching experience in seven different sports. Originally from Newfoundland, Dave moved to Halifax to pursue a degree in Recreation Management from Dalhousie.  His recreation experience includes marketing with Pittsburgh Penguins and managing and coaching numerous hockey, softball, snowboard, and tennis programs.

Currently, Dave is the Massage Therapist for the Canadian Olympic program. The majority of his work is with the National Canoe/Kayak team.  He spends much of the year in Florida and Globetrotting to international competitions. Locally, Dave can be found at Scotiabank Place with the Mooseheads Hockey club, Thunderbirds Lacrosse team, Halifax Hurricanes Basketball team, or on the sidelines with Halifax Wanderers FC. Dave is a part-time Therapist for the Montreal Canadiens. All of these athletes are big fans and supporters of FUNSports and often visit the FUNSports program to help provide a professional coaching environment.

The Need For FUNSports

One-third of Canadian parents with children under the age of 18 have been unable to register their children in organized sports due to expenses.

With more than 37,000 children living in poverty, many Nova Scotia kids won’t get to experience the positive benefits of sport. With your help, we can provide another child with the opportunity to play.

Founded in 2019, FUNSports Association is a free multi-sport after school program.

FUNSports is a non-profit organization that relies on volunteers.  We have coaches, athletes, therapists, and a fundraising event team that helps grow our association.

FUNSports kids also love to watch our local Halifax sports teams!

We enjoy watching the Hurricanes Basketball team, Mooseheads Hockey team, and Wanderers Soccer team compete. We are also very excited about the new Thunderbirds Lacrosse team in Halifax.
